Inspired after reading Catholic Charities USA Campaign to Reduce Poverty, Fr. Matthew Ruhl, S.J. decided to combine his passion for the poor with his passion for cycling to promote this innovative plan to reduce poverty and thus Cycling for Change was born.
From Memorial Day to Labor Day 2010, the Cycling for Change (C4C) team will span more than 5000 miles across the nation through rural towns and metropolitan cities. Quite an incredible 100 day challenge!
You can read more about Cycling for Change on their website which is www.cyclingforchange.org
They will arrive in Memphis, Sunday August 1 via Highway 51, scheduled around noon (possibly a little earlier due to the heat). Father Matt will say Mass at St. Louis Sunday at 6 P.M. and a Pot Luck Reception will follow. Monday, Aug. 2 they will visit the Civil Rights Museum at 3:00 p.m. and will be at Spindini's at 5:00 p.m. They have received $ 380,000 in donations since leaving Memorial Day and all donations on the trip stay in the city they appear in. The trip will end in Key West, Florida on Labor Day. Father Matt has spoken at every stop and will do so at all events during the ride. Father Matt Ruhl ( 51) is a Jesuit priest and has been pastor at St. Francis church in Kansas City for 11 years. He took a year sabbatical after 19 years to conduct this Cycling for Change Tour.
We hope that you will come down to Spindini at 5:00 p.m. on August 2nd to welcome, meet and greet the riders.
